How to celebrate a safe Diwali with toddlers?
Here are providing some safety measures and tips during Diwali.
- Clothing tips during Diwali: We have to give cotton clothes to children to wear because cotton clothes doens not catch fire easily. Avoid wearing loose clothes while your are firing crackers. Polyster or nylon clothes can catch fire easily so avoid these clothing to your children during firing the crackers.
- Oil the baby hair and tie it: Hair is the most prone area to catch the fire in the human body. In order to prevent from the fire, we should ensure hair is taken care. Ensure the hair properly oiled so fire don't catch up the wet surface quickly. For the baby please make sure the hair is tie up otherwise while firing your crackers, babies hair easily catchup the fire and that lead to hair damage as well as sever burns.
- First aid kit preparation for Diwali: Prepare the first aid kit ready with the following medications used for burns:
- Sterile gauze bandages
- Cotton
- Antiseptic cream or lotion
- disposable gloves
- Band-aid plasters
- Water for safety: Keep bucket full of water near to you while you are playing with crackers. Water would be used for accidental fires during the Diwali. In case of minor burns or scars one should pore cold water, apply cold water soaks or submerge the burn portion immediately in cold water , continuing till pain disappears and appling ointment, grease, soda, oil, powder , butter or herbs is avoided.
- Maintain Distance: Maintain more distance while you are firing crackers.
- Long match stick: Use long match stick for firing any crackers so that you maintain reasonable distance that gives the saftey.
- Don't fire up many at a time: Kids tend to light more crackers simultaneously which causes hazardous situations. Few crackers may not respond immediately so kids will move around all of them then accidents are prone to happen.
- Place for firing crackers: Make sure you to choose following areas to fire up the crackers
- Open areas
- Move away from Electric poles and wires.
- Ensure huts and wooden houses are not around
- Keep the Crackers bag away from the firing crackers.
- Adult supervision: Kids under 12 years of age should go for firework by only under adult supervision
- Sandals: Ensure kids wearing the sanding before starting the fire work.
- Rocket lighting: Keep rockets away from the kids under 10.
- Sparklers: After using the sparklers keep them in a bowl of water or in sand so that we can avoid burns accidentally.
